Since the first-ever Alberta Summer Games were introduced in 1974, thousands of Alberta athletes between the ages of 11-17 have competed in communities across the province. Every two years, a host community is selected through a rigorous bid process, and the excitement kicks off from there.
The Alberta Games, both winter and summer, provide many benefits to both the host community and to thousands of Albertans who participate at local, zone, and provincial levels. These Games celebrate the achievements of young athletes and provide them with a venue to compete and reach their athletic potential.
Sporting environments like the Alberta Summer Games are a pivotal stepping stone in athlete development. In fact, some athletes who have participated in the Alberta Games have gone on to represent their community at the Canada Games, and even gone on to represent Canada at the Olympics.
